Welcome to Folded Corner.

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Folded Corner, including its website, application and related features and services.

By creating an account, you confirm that you meet Folded Corner's age eligibility requirement and agree to these Terms.

Your use of Folded Corner is also subject to the Folded Corner Privacy Policy.

If you do not agree to these Terms, do not create or use a Folded Corner account.

1. About Folded Corner

Folded Corner is a social reading app that helps you keep track of your reading, organize books, create personal and shared lists, and connect and share reading activity with people you choose.

Folded Corner is currently provided without paid subscriptions or payment processing. If paid features are introduced in the future, any applicable pricing and additional terms will be presented before you agree to purchase them.

2. Eligibility

Folded Corner is intended for people who are at least 14 years old.

You must be at least 14 years old to create a Folded Corner account. This is an eligibility requirement for the service and does not alter any rights or protections you may have under applicable law.

By creating an account, you confirm that:

• you meet the minimum age requirement;
• the information you provide during registration is accurate to the best of your knowledge; and
• you agree to these Terms.

If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 14, we may suspend or delete the account and associated information as described in our Privacy Policy.

3. Your account

You are responsible for maintaining access to the email address associated with your account and for taking reasonable steps to keep your password and account credentials secure.

You may not:

• share your account credentials in a way that compromises account security;
• access another person's account without permission;
• impersonate another person;
• create an account using information you do not have the right to use; or
• attempt to bypass Folded Corner's authentication or security measures.

If you believe your account has been accessed without your permission, change your password and contact Folded Corner as soon as reasonably possible.

4. Your content

Folded Corner allows you to add information and content such as profile information, book information, uploaded images, lists, comments, notes, ratings, tags and other reading-related content (“Your Content”).

You retain any ownership rights you have in Your Content. Uploading content does not transfer ownership of it to Folded Corner.

By adding Your Content to Folded Corner, you give Folded Corner permission to host, store, process, reproduce and display that content only as reasonably necessary to operate, maintain and provide Folded Corner and the features you choose to use.

For example, if you post a comment in a shared list, Folded Corner needs permission to store and display that comment to the people who can access that list.

You are responsible for ensuring that you have the right to upload or share Your Content.

You must not upload or share content that:

• infringes another person's copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights;
• is unlawful, fraudulent or intentionally misleading;
• contains malicious code or is intended to compromise the service;
• contains another person's personal information when you do not have the right to share it; or
• violates these Terms.

We may remove content when reasonably necessary to enforce these Terms, comply with law, protect Folded Corner or its users, or address security or rights concerns.

5. Personal and shared features

Folded Corner includes both private and shared features.

Your personal reading information—such as personal notes, ratings and reading history—is handled according to Folded Corner's Privacy Policy and the privacy controls of the service.

When you contribute content to a shared list or another collaborative feature, that content may be visible to other people who have access to that feature.

Shared lists may have different roles and permissions. Depending on your role, you may be able to view, add, edit, comment on or otherwise interact with shared content.

When you delete your account, your personal notes, ratings, reading history and authored comments are deleted as described in our Privacy Policy. Books you added to a shared list that remains active may remain without your name attached. Replies written by other people may also remain.

6. Friends, invitations and interactions with others

Folded Corner lets you connect and interact with other people.

You are responsible for deciding who you connect with, which invitations you accept, and what you choose to share through social and collaborative features.

Do not use Folded Corner to:

• harass, threaten or abuse another person;
• repeatedly contact someone who has clearly indicated that they do not want contact;
• send spam or deceptive invitations;
• collect or misuse information about other users;
• attempt to gain unauthorized access to another person's account or private information; or
• use Folded Corner for unlawful or harmful activity.

We may restrict access to features, remove content, suspend accounts or take other reasonable action when necessary to protect users or the service.

Abuse or safety concerns can be reported through Folded Corner's Contact form or at info@foldedcorner.ca.

7. Book information and third-party content

Folded Corner uses information from third-party sources, including ISBNdb, to help provide book-search and catalog information.

Book information—including titles, authors, editions, ISBNs, publication information, descriptions and cover images—may come from third parties and may occasionally be incomplete, inaccurate, outdated or associated with a different edition.

Folded Corner does not guarantee the accuracy or completeness of third-party book information.

You may also be able to add book information manually when a book cannot be found through the catalog. You are responsible for information and images you choose to add.

8. Third-party services and links

Folded Corner relies on third-party services to provide parts of the service and may display content hosted by third parties.

Folded Corner may also include links or sharing options that take you to another website, application or service.

Third-party services have their own terms, privacy practices and availability. Folded Corner does not control third-party websites or services and is not responsible for their independent content or practices.

A link to another service does not necessarily mean Folded Corner endorses that service or everything available through it.

9. Acceptable use

You may use Folded Corner for personal, lawful purposes consistent with the intended operation of the service.

You may not:

• interfere with or disrupt Folded Corner or its infrastructure;
• attempt to bypass access controls or security measures;
• probe, scan or test the vulnerability of the service without authorization;
• introduce malware or other harmful code;
• use automated methods to scrape, harvest or extract information from Folded Corner in a way that interferes with the service or violates another person's rights;
• reverse engineer or attempt to obtain non-public source code except where applicable law expressly permits it;
• use Folded Corner to violate another person's rights or applicable law; or
• deliberately abuse features in a way that materially interferes with other users' ability to use the service.

10. Folded Corner's intellectual property

Except for Your Content and third-party content, Folded Corner and its original materials—including its branding, logos, design, software, interface and original written content—belong to Folded Corner or its applicable rights holders.

Using Folded Corner does not transfer ownership of those materials to you.

You may use the service and its materials for their intended personal use. You may not copy, sell, distribute, falsely claim ownership of or commercially exploit Folded Corner's protected materials except with permission or where applicable law allows it.

11. Availability and changes to Folded Corner

Folded Corner is an evolving service.

We may add, change, improve, remove or discontinue features as Folded Corner develops. We may also temporarily restrict access when reasonably necessary for maintenance, security, technical problems or other operational reasons.

We will try to avoid unnecessary disruption, but we cannot guarantee that Folded Corner will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free.

12. Account suspension and termination

You may stop using Folded Corner at any time and may delete your account using the available account-deletion feature.

We may restrict, suspend or terminate an account when reasonably necessary because:

• these Terms have been materially or repeatedly violated;
• the account creates a security or safety risk;
• the account is being used for fraud, abuse or unlawful activity;
• we are required to do so by law; or
• continued access would materially harm Folded Corner, its users or its systems.

Where appropriate and reasonably possible, we may provide notice or an opportunity to address the issue before terminating an account.

Information is handled following account deletion or termination as described in our Privacy Policy.

13. Disclaimers

Folded Corner is provided on an “as available” basis.

We work to provide a reliable and useful service, but software and third-party information can contain errors or experience interruptions.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, we do not guarantee that:

• Folded Corner will always be available or free from errors;
• every feature will continue indefinitely;
• book or third-party information will always be complete or accurate; or
• every device, browser or third-party service will remain compatible with Folded Corner.

Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties, rights or protections that cannot legally be excluded.

14. Liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so is prohibited by applicable law, including liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Folded Corner is not responsible for losses resulting solely from circumstances outside our reasonable control, including interruptions or failures of third-party infrastructure or services that Folded Corner does not control.

Nothing in these Terms limits any consumer rights, remedies or protections that cannot legally be waived.

15. Privacy

Your use of Folded Corner is subject to the Folded Corner Privacy Policy.

The Privacy Policy explains how Folded Corner collects, uses, discloses, stores and protects personal information and describes your privacy choices and rights.

16. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as Folded Corner changes or as legal or operational requirements evolve.

When we update them, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.

If we make a material change, we will provide additional notice where appropriate. Where your agreement to updated Terms is required, we will ask you to accept the new version before continuing to use the affected service or features.

Your acceptance of Terms versions may be recorded so that Folded Corner can identify which version you agreed to and when.

17. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws applicable in Alberta, Canada, without limiting any mandatory rights or protections you may have under consumer-protection, privacy or other laws that apply to you.
